Top notch scientists from the University of Helsinki in Finland made a courtesy call to the GIS Lab in Kenyatta University. The team of researchers led by Prof. Mikael Fogelholm are on a research mission in the region to determine walkability in public spaces. Also in the team was the Registrar in charge of Research, Innovation and Outreach, Prof. Vincent Onywera who is the coordinator of the research project in Kenya.
The researchers were warmly welcomed to the GIS Lab by Prof. Simon Onywere, the Director of Research Dissemination and Uptake. Members of staff in the university were also present during the visit. They included the Chairperson in the Department of Environmental Planning and Management, Dr Sammy Letema, Chairperson Department of Environment and Community Development and also the acting Dean in the School of Environmental Studies, Dr Joseph K. Mureithi, Mr Allan Kirui, staff in the Department of Environmental Planning and Management, support staff in the Lab and students. The research team is keen on utilizing Geo-Spatial knowledge and tools in their work with an objective of increasing the quality of the research output.
