President Kibaki was honoured in recognition of his distinctive commitment to hard work inspirational to all and leadership qualities demonstrated in education, economic growth and poverty eradication.

The former Vice-President of the Republic of Kenya and Minister for Home Affairs was also honoured during the University’s 25th graduation ceremony held on 19th December 2008 ,with a a Doctorate in Humane Letters (honoris causa), in recognition of his achievements in peace-making, conflict resolution efforts, sustainable community development and humanistic ideals.
