  • Every student of Kenyatta University is advised to familiarize herself/himself with the various areas/offices which provide welfare services to students on the Campus on a day-to-day basis. These services are available strictly to students.
  • Who is a KU student? A KU student is one who has a letter of admission, is duly registered for the specific semester and has signed the Nominal Roll

QUALITY POLICY STATEMENT

We are committed to serving our clients, the students, by sensitively addressing their needs through strategically designed procedures of efficient welfare provision.

We are keenly conscious of the diversity of the student population and, seek to create a sense of a beautiful mosaic in the student body, while at the same time being sensitive to their individual and corporate needs. To this end, we aim at constantly reviewing our service provision procedures to ensure that the Department lives up to its motto of: “Providing Integral Support and Care”


STATEMENT OF QUALITY OBJECTIVES
The primary objective is to meet the University target of developing the student welfare system for the attainment of academic excellence, high completion rate and all-round education; the specific objectives are to:
  1. identify and assist students with different categories of need;

  2. facilitate and monitor operations of professional clubs and welfare associations in the student community;

  3. prepare and regularly update departmental documents for efficient and effective services delivery;

  4. improve staff competence through regular training/in-service;

  5. initiate and guide students in community outreach programmes;

  6. continue improving the resources and services given to students with Special Needs;

  7. strengthen student governance structures;

  8. offer and strengthen the counselling services;

  9. maintain a high level of discipline and inculcate good habits among the students;

  10. facilitate students participation in co-curricula activities nationally and internationally;

  11. strengthen students participation in recreational activities on campus;

  12. liaise with Health Unit on the progress of sick students, and inform Management and the parents as need arises.

  • First Semester. Academic Year 2008/2009:
  • Students resumed classes on 3rd Sept 2008.
  • Senior Administration Block
  • The main KU administration block is to the north-eastern extremity of the campus. It houses the senior offices of the University: The VC, DVCs, Registrars, Finance Officer, and other administrators.
  • The Admissions and Examinations sections are housed in the main Administration Block. The Student Finance Section is housed in the New Administration block. Admission, fee payments and statement queries will be addressed here.

Office of the Dean of Students
  • The Office of the Dean of Students is located in Usambara Block 3, overlooking the CASB offices near Western Kitchen. The Dean of Students is mandated to oversee most of the personal and socio-economic affairs of students on both the Main and the Satellite Campuses.
  • The Dean is assisted by three Deputies, two Senior Administrators, Wardens, professional Counsellors and office staff.

The core values that the Office seeks to inculcate in every student are guided
  • by commitment, respect, integrity, co-operation, empathy, responsibility, tolerance, trust and honesty.
  • Genuinely needy students will get advise and given other help here. Problems with HELB should also be presented here.
  • Before making a decision to call off studies, ensure that you come to talk to us.
  • Let the dean of students know if you leave the campus for more than a few days this is for your own good.
  • Ensure that we have your profile in our data base including contacts of your parent/guardians.
  • You do not have to walk alone on your journey as a student in Ku; we are here for you.
