Statement on Kenyatta University closure

Following the continued lecturers strike and heightened agitation among students KU senate made the decision to close the University until further notice. Kenyatta University recognizes a wide range of complaints with regards to the ongoing lecturers’ strike that has affected teaching in all public Universities.

The University will continue to engage the relevant authorities for a quick resolution to the strike issue.We are aware that student elections were held successfully this week, and the losing groups have sought to influence events and incite students which will not be tolerated.

The University in its wisdom chose to reschedule exams in view of the challenges posed by the lecturer’s strike which was an area of concern among students.A new date will be communicated very soon on the resumption of academic activities.

In the meantime, we ask all students to adhere strictly to the student’s code of conduct and avoid sharing alarming reports on social media. Students are warned not to share information that is inaccurate or has not been authenticated by the University administration as this contravenes the university social media policy.

All other University offices and services continue to operate as normal.
