Harambee Stars hold Mozambique in friendly

A late equalizer from Sweden based Eric Johanna saw Harrambee Stars rally a goal down to hold hosts Mozambique to a 1-1 draw in an international friendly match played in Maputo on Saturday.

Bidvest Wits midfielder Elias ‘Domingues’ Pelembe sent Mozambique ahead in the 59th minute with a powerful right footed shot but Johanna, who plies his trade with Vasalunds IF ensured spoils were shared when he found the back of the net in the 85th minute.

Hararambee Stars First Coach Stanley Okumbi handed the Gor Mahia duo of midfielder Kenneth Muguana and forward George ‘Blackberry’ first starts under him as he continues to gauge some of the local based players he will field for the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) next year.

The friendly was part of the build up to the second match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations where Kenya hosts giants Ghana March 2018.

On Friday, a CHAN side, led by assistant coach Musa Otieno recorded a similar result against Mauritania in Morocco. The side will be facing the hosts on Tuesday hoping to get a favourable result.
