Academic Model Providing Access to HealthCare (AMPATH) Oncology, Kenya
Director of Clinical care, Education & Training and Research for AMPATH Oncology Institute in Kenya. A collaborative partnership between Moi University, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and a consortium of North American Universities led by Indiana University. He is a Medical Oncologist and Hematologist and Faculty, Division of Hematology and Oncology, Indiana University, Indianapolis and visiting Faculty, Moi University School of Medicine. Principal Investigator on various research projects including Lymphoma, Breast and Cervical Cancer, Kaposi Sarcoma, Curriculum Development in Oncology, Multiple Myeloma, Lung Cancer, Innovative training methodologies, Esophageal Cancer and Prostate Cancer among others. He is also the founder of Sickle cell and hemophilia Programs at AMPATH. He has developed a Point-Of-Care delivery system for Oncology in Kenya which includes screening for Breast and Cervical Cancer
Dr. Gladwell Kiarie
Dr. Gladwell Kiarie graduated with MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degrees from The University of Nairobi and went ahead to receive her post graduate degree in Internal Medicine from the same institution. She then did Medical Oncology fellowship in London.
She worked at The University of Nairobi in the Clinical Medicine Department as a Senior Lecturer until last year. She set up the first tumor board at Kenyatta National Hospital.
She is a leading consultant in major hospitals in Nairobi. Dr. Kiarie is an advocates for early diagnosis of cancer and is greatly involved in programs that focus on providing easy access to basic screening services to the under privileged. She won a travel grant (Union Against Cancer) in 2014 for screening in poor resource settings. She is passionate about raising cancer awareness through various channels media, talks and training of health professionals.
She has been involved in development of national cancer guidelines and in development of oncology services at the county level hospitals.
She is a member of the Kenya Society of Haematology and Oncology (KESHO) where she is a past treasurer and is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) as well as European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburg.
