DEPARTMENT OF AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND TRADE

i)  MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRIBUSINESS

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
a) The common regulations for admission into the Masters degrees in the school of Agriculture shall apply:
b)  The following shall be eligible for admission into the Masters of Science (Agribusiness) programme.
i) A holder of First-class or second class honors (Upper Division) degree or their equivalent in Agriculture, Horticulture, Range Management, Agribusiness, agricultural resource management or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
ii) A holder of a second class honors (Lower Division) degrees in the above mentioned areas with evidence of at least two years relevant working experience.

DURATION AND DEGREE PATTERN
a) The Master of Science (Agribusiness) degree programme is by course work, examination and thesis.
b) The programme will take a minimum of 18 months.
c) To graduate with a Master of Science (Agribusiness) the student is expected to pass at least eleven units (six of which will be core) in addition to a thesis.
i) In the first year of study, the student is expected to take 14 units
ii) In the second year, the student will be expected to carry out field research and submit a thesis for examination.

CERTIFICATION
The degree to be awarded is designated: Masters of Science (Agribusiness Management and Trade).

(ii) MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS PROGRAMME

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
a) The common regulations for admission into the Masters degrees in the school of Agriculture shall apply:
b)  The following shall be eligible for admission into the Masters of Science (Agricultural Economics) programme.
i) A holder of First-class or second class honors (Upper Division) degree or their equivalent in Agriculture, Horticulture, Range Management, Agribusiness, Agricultural resource management or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
ii) A holder of a second class honors (Lower Division) degrees in the above mentioned areas with evidence of at least two years relevant working experience.

DURATION AND DEGREE PATTERN
a) The Master of Science (Agricultural Economics) degree programme is by course work, examinations and thesis.
b) The programme will take a minimum of 18 months.
c) To graduate with a Master of Science (Agricultural Economics) the student is expected to pass at least ten units (six of which will be core) in addition to a thesis.
i) In the first year of study, the student is expected to take 14 units
ii) In the second year, the student will be expected to carry out field research and submit a thesis for examination.

CERTIFICATION
The degree to be awarded is designated:
•    Master of Science in Agricultural Economics( production option)
•     Master of Science in Agricultural Economics (Marketing option)
•    Master of Science in Agricultural Economics (policy option)


DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

(i)MASTER OF SCIENCE IN PLANT BREEDING.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT
(i)    The common regulations for admission into the Masters Degrees in Kenyatta University shall apply.
(ii)    The general regulations for all Master Degrees in the School of Agriculture and Enterprise Development shall apply.
(iii)    Holders of a Bachelors degree with at least a First Class or Upper Second class Honours in Agriculture or any other related areas from all Institutions recognized by Kenyatta University Senate.
(iv)    Holders of Bachelors degree with Lower Second Class Division in Agriculture or any other related areas with at least two years relevant research experience or a post-graduate diploma.

DURATION AND DEGREE PATTERN
i.    The Master of Science degree in Plant breeding is by coursework, examination and thesis.  
ii.    The programme will take a minimum of 18 months.
iii.    In the first year of study, the students will be required to take a total of 12 units.
iv.    In second year of study, the students will carry out research project and submit a thesis for examination.

CERTIFICATION: The degree to be awarded is designated: Master of Science in Plant Breeding.



DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE  RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

(i)  MASTER OF SCIENCE IN LAND AND WATER MANAGEMENT

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

a)    The common regulations for admissions into master degree in Kenyatta University shall apply.
b)    The general regulations for all master degree in the School of Agriculture  and Enterprise Development shall apply.
c)    Holders of a B.Sc degree with at least an upper second class honours in Agriculture, Agricultural Resource Management, Dryland Agriculture and Enterprise Development, Agricultural Engineering, Range Management, Horticulture, Environmental science, Agricultural Education, or its equivalent from Kenyatta University and other institutions recognized by Kenyatta University Senate.
d)    Holders of B.Sc degree with lower second class honours in agricultural related areas but with at least two years relevant research experience.

DURATION AND DEGREE PATTERN
a)    The M.Sc degree in land and water management shall consist of coursework, examination and thesis.
b)    The M.Sc. programme will take a minimum of two (2) years.
c)    In year one, a candidate shall be required to take a total of 12 units of which 10 shall be compulsory taken from core units and 2 electives. In first semester, a candidate will take six core units and in second semester 4 core units and 2 electives.
d)    In year two, a candidate shall concentrate on research work and submit a thesis.

CERTIFICATION
The degree to be awarded is designated: Master of Science in Land and Water Management (MSc. Land and Water Management)

(ii) MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN INTEGRATED SOIL FERTILITY MANAGEMENT

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
a)    The common regulations governing admissions to masters degrees in Kenyatta University shall apply
b)    The general regulations for all master degrees in the school of Agriculture and Enterprise Development shall apply
c)    Holders of a B.Sc Degree with an upper Second Class Honours in Agriculture, Agricultural Resource Management, Dry-land Agriculture & Enterprise Development, Agricultural Engineering, Range Management, Horticulture, Environmental science, Agricultural Education or any equivalent qualification from Kenyatta University or other institutions recognized by Kenyatta University Senate
d)    Holders of B.Sc degree with lower Second Class Honours in the agricultural related areas but with at least two years relevant research experience.

DURATION AND DEGREE PATTERN
a)    The M.Sc degree in Integrated Soil fertility shall consist of coursework, examination and thesis
b)    The M.Sc programme shall take a minimum period of two years.
c)    In year one, a candidate shall be required to take a total of 12 units (10 core and 2 elective units).
d)    In year two, a candidate shall concentrate on research work and submit a thesis.

CERTIFICATION
The degree to be awarded is designated: Master of Science in Integrated Soil fertility Management (M.Sc Integrated Soil Fertility Management).
