Human Resources Management

Program Rationale
Development of human resources in all organizations requires a strategic approach that ensures that all those involved understand the value of each member and treat and manage them as a key resource. In an attempt to bridge the existing gap in the way human resources are managed in organizations today, government of Kenya introduced an Act of parliament that stipulates that consultants, managers, CEOs and practising HR professional must be certified HRM personnel. In addition, as Human Resource Development training and development serves market and industry needs by equipping learners with theoretical and practical skills in the field of HRM, the proposed programme has been re-introduced in the department of Business Administration to create a HRM foundation for practising HR personnel and also to create a HRM foundation to students aspiring to be HR specialists. Through this programme, the department and the school as a whole aims to develop HR professionals who will be the drivers of the economy leading to the attainment of the country’s vision 2030 a key requirement to achieving the economic pillar. Further, through this programme Kenyatta University will also be in a position to compete globally as a world class university.
As the department rebrands the programme from Bachelors of Arts (HRM) to Bachelors of Human Resource Development, it aims at mitigating on the limitations of Bachelor of Commerce program that has HRM option; the new Bachelors program has been developed to facilitate graduates to have easy registration to professional bodies and also qualify as HRM professionals.
