Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme in Business

1. Regulations

The common University regulations for the degree of Doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) based on course work examination and thesis shall apply.

2. Admission Requirements

The following shall be eligible for admission:
a) A holder of a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree or its equivalent in Business from Kenyatta University or any other institution recognized by Kenyatta University Senate.
b) A holder of a Masters degree from Kenyatta University in areas of specialization relevant to disciplines in the school of Business or any other institution recognized by the Kenyatta University Senate.

3. Duration and Pattern

a) The Programme shall take a minimum of three years and a maximum of four years for fulltime students.

b) The Programme shall take a minimum of four years and maximum of six years for part time students.

c) The Programme consists of a total of seventeen (17) units comprising of nine (9) course work units and thesis (8 units).

d) Students will take a maximum of three (3) and minimum of two (2) coursework units per semester.

e) Students shall embark on the thesis upon completion of the coursework.


4. Examination Regulations

a) The seminar shall be examined by presentation(s), assignment(s) and term paper(s), which shall be marked out of 100%.

b) The independent study paper shall be marked out of 100%.

c) The pass mark for each course shall be fifty percent (50%).

d) The final examination shall account for 60% of the marks in the each taught unit while continuous assessment shall account for the remaining 40%.

e) A candidate who fails in any course shall be allowed to sit for a supplementary.

f) A candidate who fails in a supplementary examination shall be discontinued.

g) A candidate who fails in all the units offered in a semester shall be discontinued.
