PREAMBE

The role of industrialization in strengthening the economy has been recognized in the development process since
independence . However, there is anew emphasis though Kenya's goal of industrial transformation by the year 2030. The development of the relevant manufacturing skills will go a long way towards achieving this goal. In the era of globalization, any country that does not Process materials and add value to them will stand severely disadvantaged . Kenya will need to develop the requisite skills in manufacturing that will be required to interpret the needs of society into products and to understand and apply manufacturing processes developed elsewhere. Mechanical Engineering will be required to enhance Industrial development.

RATIONALE

Mechanical engineering has been necessitated by the fact that mechanical engineers are required in the process of industrial transformation of our country .

To produce world class engineers for the manufacturing sector

MISSION

To develop manpower capable of utilizing and enhancing knowledge and skills in design and production

OBJECTIVES

To provide training in skills that can turn resources into usable products or services for the benefit of our society.
To prepare graduate engineers for the industrial sector in the field of design and production.
To develop the basic entrepreneurial skills as a basis of self employment.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

Currently the department offers the following degree course.

Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering. (B.Sc Mechanical Engineering )

Entry Requirement

Students wishing to pursue the above undergraduate program must satisfy the following conditions;
a. The minimum entry requirement for the School of Engineering and Technology.
b. The candidate must have attained the following minimum grades at KCSE or equivalent qualifications:

Chemistry B
English

PROGRAM DURATION AND PATTERN

The duration of study for BSc Mechanical Engineering extends for five(5) academic years.
Though out the course of study, a candidate is required to take 16 units in any given year of study. A semester shall consist of 16 weeks and the teaching hours for each course will be 48 hours.
To qualify for the award of the degree, the candidate should have passed not less than 80 units plus industrial attachment units. Students will undergo a practical attachment of 8 weeks in the school workshop in their second year of study.
