Current research projects

  • 2011 Organizing in conjunction with the American College of Sports Medicine an International course for Team Physicians on Prevention of Injury and illness in Sports to be held at Kenyatta University in April 2012.
  • December 2011 Camp Shriver at KU year end sports activities. Proposal sponsored by Kshs. 15,000
  • November 2011 Proposal to the National Disability Awards nominating Kenyatta University for Corporate Leadership, Social Inclusion and Infrastructure: University awarded 1st position trophy.
  • May 2011 Enhancing Paralympic Sports through Science and Technology. Organised workshop in conjunction with the IPC Sports science committee at Kenyatta University from 15th - 18th May. Workshop attracted 90 participants from various sports organisations in Kenya.
  • 2011 Effects of Physical Activity Participation on Youth with Intellectual Disabilities Participating in Special Olympics Programmes in Nairobi Province – Kenya. Funding of US$ 5,000 by the Centre for Disease Control -USA
  • 2011 Written proposal for funding to organise a Special Olympics Awareness Day in September, 2011.
  • 2011 Completing PhD thesis on Impact of peer tutor training programme on the physical and motor activity level of learners with and without intellectual disability in Nairobi County for graduation in June 2012.

  • 2011: Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development: Validation of the Draft Kenya Country Report on the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.
  • 2010: Special Olympics Global strategic Planning- Chair Sustainable Capabilities on Culture and Values. 2007 -Consulted for the Ministry of Youth Affairs on the development of the National Youth Sports Policy. -Sports for persons with disabilities. A seminar paper presented during the Ministry of education workshop for teacher training PE tutors.

Recent Funded Research Projects

  • April 2011. Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Student Grant for a fitness evaluation of 300 participants in Special Olympics programmes in the County of Nairobi. Total sponsorship from Special Olympics Africa $5000
  • August 2010. One day symposium on Special Olympics for 100 University Sports coaches from the East African region. Held on 18th November at Kenyatta University. Total sponsorship by Special Olympics Africa $2500
  • March 2010. Community Health Promotion Research Project for Parents and youth with Intellectual
    Disabilities in Mathare and Kahawa areas of Nairobi. Total Grant from Special Olympics International $20,000
  • November 2009. Organized a two week Camp Shriver for youth with and without Intellectual disabilities to learn skills in Football and Basketball. Total Grants from various sponsors $25,0000
  • January 2010. Research funding by Umass centre of social development in education. To conduct research on coaches skill and views about the Camp Shriver at Kenyatta University. Total
