The Department of PMS is part of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences and also offers units to students from the School of Education and School of Environmental Studies and Human Sciences.

Academic Staff and Specialisation
The department has well qualified academic staff of 24, covering several areas of specialisation such as Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Ethno botany, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Genetics, Microbiology. Plant Taxonomy and Biosystematics, Molecular Biology, Ecology, Economic Botany and Plant Biotechnology.
