Professor Simon N. Gicharu, CBS
Professor Simon Gicharu is a distinguished academician and leader in the field of education and sustainable development. With a career spanning several decades, he has made significant contributions to academia, institution building, and policy development.

He holds advanced degrees in education and his academic journey has equipped him with the knowledge and expertise necessary to spearhead innovative educational initiatives. He has won various awards and honorable national and international mentions.

Prof. Gicharu is the chairman and founder of Mt. Kenya University. Currently he is the chairman, Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development. He is an entrepreneur having established various business enterprises within the East African Region



Professor Pat Obi
Pat Obi is a tenured Professor of Finance at Purdue University Northwest, USA. His official academic title is White Lodging Professor of Finance, an endowed professorship received in 2014.  Purdue University Northwest is the second largest of five campuses of Purdue University, a public university in the U.S. State of Indiana. Obi teaches Corporate Finance, Derivatives, Financial Markets, and Business Analytics. With professional engagements in more than five dozen countries, he is the author of several scholarly articles and finance books. At Purdue Northwest, he is the recipient of several awards, including Teacher of the Year, Outstanding Scholar, Distinguished Faculty Lecturer, Teaching Incentive, and Lionhearted Leader. Similar honors have come from international academies, including Academy of Finance, Global Conference on Business & Finance, Academy of African Business and Development, and Global Business and Technology Association. Obi is ACUE certified in effective college instruction. Obi has an active YouTube educational channel featuring videos in finance, statistics, and financial econometrics. In addition to his regular responsibilities at Purdue, he serves as a visiting professor in nine overseas universities.



Fr. Francis Sebastian CMI

Fr Francis Sebastian is an assistant professor and the assistant Director, Rajagiri Business School. He has served in various capacities as coordinator and administrator. He holds PhD in Marketing, an MBA and various Bachelor degrees.

He has several publications, presented at conferences and engaged in consultancies.



Elaine Rossiter

Elaine is an  experienced and successful HR professional with over 25 years of practical expertise in human resource management and over 14 years lecturing experience in a variety of HRM subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

She has demonstrated success in  wide-ranging human resource management including all stages of recruitment and selection, improving performance management contributing to improved organisational performance, supporting organisation development, implementing HR policies, and counselling employees. She has partnered with all levels of management up to and  including Vice-President.

In addition, she has extensive experience of teaching with the ability to teach across a wide range of topics and levels and to deliver high quality teaching as well as proven success  in assessment, monitoring and evaluation of students work. She has broad experience in programme development and delivery of many programmes as well as experience in academic administration.  She has extensive experience in supervising post-graduate Dissertation Students.  Elaine also manages the work-placement programme for third year students in HR which requires her to interact effectively with students, colleagues and external stakeholders and helps  foster  and develop  external links and partnerships within business and industry to facilitate work placements for all students

Having come from a practitioner’s background her focus has been on imparting her practical experience to students  as well  as adapting her  teaching methods to  focus on  methods/approaches to not only  teach but to  engage students

Dr Peter Theuri
Dr. Peter Theuri is currently the Chairman of the Department of Accounting and Finance in the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the United States.  Dr. Theuri has been at A&T University for seven years and prior to that he was a full professor of accounting and the Chairman of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Business Law at Northern Kentucky University.  He has been in academia for over 35 years.  Dr. Theuri has authored more than 20 research manuscripts in reputable accounting and business journals.  His passion is in teaching financial accounting at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Over his academic career, he has received numerous teaching and research excellence awards.  His undergraduate degree was earned from Oakwood University in Alabama, his MBA degree was from the University of Central Oklahoma, and the doctorate in accounting degree was earned from Mississippi State University.  He is also a Certified Public Accountant.



Margaret Mutheu

Margaret is an global impact advocate for youth and women in Africa. She has an IT background and over 15 years of diverse work experience across government, non-profit management, private sector engagement, entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurship ecosystem development. A passionate advocate for youth and women’s economic empowerment with track record in leading initiatives, designing and developing programs, partnerships management, fostering entrepreneurship ecosystems, and empowering African businesses to thrive globally. I have previously worked and consulted for local and global organizations like WEConnect International, 1Million Startups, GIZ, International Trade Centre, World Bank Group, UPS Foundation, Moody’s Foundation, FCDO just to mention a few. She is a fellow of the prestigious Launch & Grow program by Santander, Women in Africa and Babson Executive college and fellow&winner of the FEBA/Enpact program by GIZ. She is currently the CEO of Elevate SMEs, a business support organization for youth and women SMEs.


Dr. Chimwemwe Chipeta, PhD

Professor of Finance & Director: Wits Fintech Hub

Chimwemwe is a Full Professor of Corporate Finance, Head of the Finance Division, and Director of the Wits Fintech Hub at the University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a PhD in Financial Management Sciences from the University of Pretoria and has 15 years of teaching and research experience in corporate finance and investments.

Previously, he served as the Bank of Zambia Chair in Banking and Finance at Mulungushi University and later as a Visiting Scholar at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University in the US. His research interests mainly focus on corporate finance, financial innovations (Fintech), and investments.

Chimwemwe is NRF-rated (C2) and has published numerous papers in the field of finance and investments in high-impact journals such as Finance Research Letters, Emerging Markets Review, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, Research in International Business and Finance, and Investment Analysts Journal.

He is the recipient of several awards, including the Research Excellence Award, and has received several externally funded grants. Chimwemwe has presented his research findings at numerous national and international conferences. Within the school, he has held leadership roles, including Research Coordinator and Chair of the SEBS Finance and Research Committees. He was the lead organizer and host of the SEBS Annual Postgraduate Conference. Chimwemwe has several years of practical experience in areas relating to degree program development, executive education, business plan development, and digital asset investments.

 



Dr. Michael Muchiri
Dr Michael Muchiri is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management, College of Business, Alfaisal University.

He holds a PhD in Management from the University of New England, Australia. His PhD dissertation focused on transformational leader behaviors, social processes of leadership, and substitutes for leadership as predictors of employee commitment, efficacy, citizenship behaviors and performance outcomes within Australian local councils.

Michael also holds a Master of Science degree specializing in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (awarded cum laude).

His primary research interests focus on positive forms of organizational leadership, employee thriving at work, workplace safety and employee well-being. His research has been published in internationally recognized outlets.

Michael also has several book chapters published by internationally recognized outlets including by the American Psychological Association (US) and Edward Elgar Publishing (UK).

Michael’s research has been presented at the Academy of Management Annual Meetings (US), Australian Psychological Society’s Industrial and Organizational Psychology Conferences, British Academy of Management Conferences, and Australasian Business Ethics Network.

In 2012, 2014 and 2016, Michael was awarded Top Reviewer by the Academy of Management Annual Meeting, US.

Michael is on the Editorial Board for Leadership & Organization Development Journal (Scimago Q1).

Michael has also received substantial research funds, including funding from the City of Melbourne Council (Victoria, Australia), Small Business Victoria (Victoria, Australia), and the Department of Local Government, Planning, Sports and Recreation (Queensland, Australia).

Further, Michael has supervised to completion several PhD students in the field of Organizational Leadership, Organizational Behavior, Management, and Human Resource Management.

Prior to joining Alfaisal University, Michael held continuing academic positions at RMIT University (Australia) and CQ University (Australia), and was a Visiting Researcher at the University of Queensland (Australia). At RMIT University, Michael was the Inaugural Program Manager for the Master of Human Resource Management, and was an Assessor for the Australian Research Council.

 


Richard Obiga
Richard Obiga is currently a Senior Programme Officer working at the National Social Protection Secretariat under the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs in the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection in Kenya actively engaged in the area of formulation, development and review of Social Protection policies, strategies and frameworks. Also involved in and programme design and development. Richard has been in the public service for the last 13 years. He has participated in the development of a number of key Social Protection documents at both country and international levels in addition to participating in various national, regional and global forums on Social Protection. Has a keen interest on Sustainable Social Protection financing and Siocial Protection and in the context of climate change and sustainable development and Siocial Protection in the context of Climate Change and sustainable development.



Brian Wesaala

Founder & CEO, The Football Foundation for Africa (FFA)
Brian Wesaala is a seasoned IT professional with over ten years of experience. He holds a BSc. in Computer Science from the University of Nairobi (Kenya) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Technology Management from the Open University (United Kingdom), where he focused on innovation and project management. He holds a professional master’s degree in Football Business from the Football Business Academy. Mr Wesaala is also a trained accountant (ACCA) from Strathmore University. In 2022, he completed the Advanced Entrepreneurship Programme at the Institute of Small Businesses Initiative at Strathmore Business School.

Mr Wesaala worked with various international organisations, including the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, the World Meteorological Organisation and the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2018, he set up The Football Foundation for Africa to help create a sustainable business model for the future of African football. A passionate follower of the game, he possesses a deep understanding of the global football industry and is keen to see the sport improve the livelihoods of African youths. Mr Wesaala is an accomplished speaker and has been featured in various local and foreign media.

The Football Foundation for Africa is an internationally recognised social enterprise that seeks to drive investment in grassroots development in Africa, aiming to improve the quality of opportunities in the sports industry. FFA also seeks to protect the foundations of African football, namely youth, talent and passion, by promoting better governance of the beautiful game at all levels. In 2019, FFA won the Football Heroes Award (for Social Responsibility), organised by the International Football Development Association in collaboration with Global Leader in Sport.

Mr Wesaala also convenes the Africa Football Business Summit, a platform that seeks to establish a pan-African agenda for football enterprise development on the content. Now in its third edition, the event gathers industry stakeholders from governments, national federations and associations, leagues, clubs, academies, the private sector, local and international development agencies, etc. The Summit aims to forge conversations, create networks and mobilise investment to transform the beautiful game on the continent.

Dr. Mercyline W. Kamande

Dr. Mercyline W. Kamande is the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Research Affairs at Mount Kenya University. Previously she served as the Principal Open and Distance Leaning (ODEL). Before returning to Kenya, she held senior administrative positions at Mount Kenya University Rwanda. She is also a senior lecturer in Economics and a research mentor for postgraduate students. She holds a PhD(Economics) and an MA (Economics) from the University of Dares Salaam. She also holds an advanced diploma in Information Technology from IMIS (UK)She has a wealth of experience in impact evaluation research. She has won several research grants in the area of Impact Evaluation. Her research interests are mainly in public policy issues where she has done a lot of research in agricultural policy, food security and interventions in Education. As a quantitative data analyst, she has interacted extensively with project staff from different projects in Rwanda and Kenya and participated in impact evaluations for several projects. Through the BITSS-CEGA Initiative, she is a research transparency catalysis and actively involved in promoting and training in open science practices which include Pre-registration, Pre-Analysis Plans, Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis.



Dr. Eliud Moyi

Dr. Eliud Moyi is the Deputy Director (Partnerships) at the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA).
Previously, Dr. Moyi worked as an Economist in the Government of Kenya before joining KIPPRA as a Policy Analyst. He holds
a PhD (Economics) Degree from the University of Cape Town (UCT). He is a specialist in Macroeconomics, Microeconometrics and
Financial Economics. Dr. Moyi has previously held Research Fellowships at the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and
UNU-WIDER



Leah Kasera

Leah Kasera is a Strategic Partnerships Executive with over 15 years’ experience in the public and private sector engagement with specific focus on program strategy development. Currently Head of Regulatory & External Affairs (Africa) for an FMCG based in Senegal – She is experienced in guiding strategy on business development, value chain investment, trade and agriculture policy. She has supported countries convert their agricultural commitments into investments principally by building effective partnerships between governments, donors, SMEs, small-holders, private sector through sustainable models, including multi-stakeholder platforms. Her professional experience includes working as Head of Region & Partnerships at the World Economic Forum (WEF) and African Union Development Agency (AUDA) in Geneva and Johannesburg, Adviser to the Vice President (Corporate) African Development Bank in Tunisia, Adviser to Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission in Ethiopia.

Leah holds a master’s degree in International Policy from Staffordshire University UK; a master’s degree in Governance and Development from Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), and an Executive MBA in Organization & Systems Development from Cleveland Institute Ohio.

She holds post-graduate qualifications in Management Strategy from the London School of Economics, in Public Diplomacy from University of South California and Leadership & Management from Strathmore University Kenya.

A Board Member of the National Potato Council of Kenya, Member Institute of Leadership & Management (UK), Member Association of Public Diplomacy Scholars and PPPs (Public-Private Partnerships) in Emerging Markets. She has served as a resource person on blogs for the University of South California and the African Development Bank. She has written academic research papers on ‘Partnerships for Transformation’ and ‘Africa-EU Economic Partnership Agreements’



Ms. Lynnet Kamonde

Ms. Lynnet Kamonde is the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ecotourism Kenya (EK).

Ms. Lynnet is a professional with a strong background in finance, project management and administration. Having worked for Ecotourism Kenya for over 10 years, she has gained valuable experience and insight into the principles and practices of sustainable tourism. This shift in focus has allowed her to blend her financial expertise with a passion for promoting environmentally and socially responsible travel. Her unique perspective enables her to address both the economic and ecological aspects of tourism, advocating for sustainable practices that benefit local communities and preserve natural resources. She is also a trained Green Destination Auditor.



Martin Waithaka Irungu
Martin holds a Master’s degree in Community Resource Management from Kenyatta University and an executive certificate in Sustainability Leadership from the Hurricane Island Centre of Science and Leadership (USA). He is also a certified programs management professional (PMP®) with over ten years of experience conceptualizing, managing, and executing poverty alleviation programs while promoting self-reliance. His concentration is designing, implementing, and evaluating initiatives that address the root causes of poverty, empower marginalized communities, and create sustainability. He is the founder and Executive Director of Empower and Serve Kenya (EmpServe Kenya), a youth-centered organization dedicated to unlocking the potential of young individuals through skills development and running innovative social enterprises. Throughout his career, Martin has provided technical leadership in program implementation, creating measurable impact through Human-Centered Design approaches in programming for the disenfranchised especially the youth, women, and displaced populations.



Phyllis Wakiaga

Phyllis Wakiaga is an accomplished professional with over 18 years of experience in Private Sector Development, Public Policy Formulation, Stakeholder and Government Relations, Industrial Policy, International Trade and Investment, Strategy Formulation and Execution, Human Capital Management, Resource Mobilization, Financial Oversight Corporate Governance and Sustainability.

She is currently the Senior Advisor and Global Lead for Commerce and Industry at Tony Blair Institute for Global Change where she supports the work on the design and implementation of industrial strategies, bringing her depth of expertise and experience on industrialisation and economic transformation. She also drives, continental public-private dialogue initiatives and the development of global investment programmes across several sectors including manufacturing and tradable services.

Phyllis is the immediate former Chief Executive of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) and worked at the Association for 9 years from June 2013 to June 2022. She was the Head of Policy, Research and Advocacy and in 2015 took over at the CEO at the Association. During her tenure she drove the prioritisation of Manufacturing as a strategic productive sector in Kenya, influenced the adoption of sustainability and inclusivity in the sector and positioned the Kenyan Manufacturing Sector Regionally and globally.

Ms. Wakiaga was also the Chair of United Nations Global Compact Network, Kenya Chapter from 2017-2022. She drove the growth of the Network to the largest Corporate Sustainability Network in Africa.

Before joining the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, she was the Manager for Government and Industry at Kenya Airways and prior to that worked at Otieno Omuga and Ouma Advocates as a Pupil and Legal Assistant.

She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and has a Bachelor of Law and master’s in international Trade and Investment Law from University of Nairobi. She is also a holder of a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management, Executive MBA and is currently finalizing her PHD in Leadership and Governance at the Jomo Kenyatta University. Phyllis is an Alumni of the Swedish Institute Management Program on Sustainable Leadership and has been trained by Strathmore and John Hopkins University of Public Policy and Private Sector Development.

Phyllis is an expert on Corporate Governance and is a member of Kenya Roads Board, International Centre for Research on Women (Africa Board), Institute of Economic Affairs, United States International University amongst others.  She has served on various boards and organisations including Kenya Electricity Generating Company, Anti- Counterfeit Agency, Kenya Intellectual Property Institute, Kenya Private Sector Alliance, EAC Manufacturers Network, COMESA Business Council, Private Sector Covid Fund Board amongst others.

She has been recognized among the Business Daily Top 40 under 40 Business 2016, Top 10 Kenyan

Communicators 2017, Top Africa Economic Leaders for Tomorrow on the Choiseul 100 Africa list 2018 and one

of the 2019 Most Influential People of African Descent, Global 100 Under 40.



Victor Otieno Agolla
Victor Otieno MBA (Entrepreneurship), BCOM, CPA (K) is the Managing Director of Viffa Consult and former County Chief Officer in Charge of Digital economy and startups in Nairobi CityCounty and former Policy advisor to the Association of startup and SME enablers of Kenya (ASSEK) board.

At Viffa Victor Leads in conducting in-depth research on issues affecting Kenyan SMEs and Startups,analyzing existing policies and propose evidence-based recommendations to improve the businessenvironment for SMEs and Startups, engage with government, private sector, and CSOs to advocate for policy reforms and initiatives that support SME and Startup growth and disseminating research findings, policy recommendations, and best practices through publications, mainstream media and online platforms among others.

Victor is deeply passionate about the African Entrepreneur and has worked with over 500 organizations in over 5 African countries in East and Southern Africa.

Yenesew Alene Belew
Yenesew Alene Belew has been an assistant professor of tourism and hotel management at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia, since 2008. He studied marketing, project management, strategic planning, tourism and hotel management, destination promotion, leadership, public management, heritage management, and others in Ethiopia, Austria, Japan, India, Spain, Kenya, Greece, and Romania. He participated in projects and initiatives that aimed at community development, business sustainability, heritage conservation, destination marketing, IT infrastructures, grant management, resource mapping, and an e-learning platform with the financial support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), Vincennes City (France), the European Commission, the British Council, and the Ethiopian Government. Dr. Tom M. K. Bruyer
Dr. Tom M.K. Bruyer is an experienced Lecturer at the Department of Commercial Sciences and Business Administration at VIVES University of Applied Sciences in Bruges, Belgium. His fields of interest and teaching include:

– Global Business Management, specializing in the Middle East and North Africa

– ⁠Tourism and Hospitality in the Middle East

– ⁠Cross-cultural business communication

He has previously taught at Ghent University (Belgium) and Gulf University for Science and Technology (Kuwait).

Esther Kagure Munyiri

Dr Esther Munyiri is the Director, Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management – Eastern Africa (GTRCM-EA) at Kenyatta University. She holds First Class Honours in Tourism Management as well as Masters and PhD in Tourism Management. Her areas of interest include Climate change vulnerability, mitigation and adaptation, Crisis management in tourism, Geospatial analysis, tourism governance and regional development, tourism management and marketing and Community tourism development. She has wealth of experience in tourism management from work engagements with Aigas Field Centre in Scotland, Scottish Government Agency for the Natural Environment, the Scottish Natural Heritage and Lewa Wilderness Trails tourist Lodge. Her role as Director of the GTRCMC-EA in Kenyatta University involves spearheading research and dissemination of findings on crisis preparedness, response and recovery, risk prevention and management and providing policy and strategy direction to the Government and other stakeholders in the tourism industry in the region.



Elvis Wafula Sitati
Elvis Wafula Sitati is an esteemed entrepreneur and dedicated environmentalist boasting a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies with a specialization in Community Development from Kenyatta University. His journey is marked by a commitment to fostering positive change and advancing social justice.

At the helm of the Uamuzi Foundation, he serves as both founder and CEO, pioneering a groundbreaking social enterprise that harnesses the power of technology and data to champion the rights of marginalized groups. With a core focus on youth, women, and persons living with disabilities, the foundation endeavors to secure equal footing for all in society; be it in social, economic or political spheres.

Sitati’s brainchild, a revolutionary social networking platform stands as a testament to his visionary approach. This platform not only facilitates meaningful engagement among youth but also bridges the gap between citizens and elected representatives. Here, individuals can actively participate in decision-making processes, access timely and credible information and freely voice their thoughts and concerns. Currently undergoing a pilot phase in Kenya, the platform is poised for expansion across the African continent.

Beyond his entrepreneurial pursuits, Sitati is a staunch advocate for youth empowerment.
