KENYATTA UNIVERSITY

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN A FAST GROWING INSTITUTION

 Kenyatta University seeks to recruit competent and dedicated applicants to fill up the following positions:

Kenyatta University Teaching, Research and Referral Hospital

Kenyatta University is in the process of opening a new state of the art Hospital - Kenyatta University Teaching, Research and Referral Hospital (KUTRRH). The Hospital aspires to meet the health needs of all Kenyans, regional and global citizens with quality, compassionate patient and family centered health care. The Hospital will also offer training of highly skilled medical manpower while carrying out medical research and serve as a referral centre. In line with Kenyatta University’s Strategic Plan and Vision 2030 Development Plan, the University plans to operationalize the new Hospital in March 2016 starting with the Outpatient Division in the first phase.
The University is seeking to employ highly qualified self-driven persons to actualize its agenda of offering quality patient and family centered health care and training of medics while conducting medical research in a premier state of the art Referral Hospital.

LEGAL OFFICER
Qualifications:
  • Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor of Law degree from a recognized university
  • Applicants must have at least two (2) years of relevant work experience

Duties:

  • Participating in drawing, negotiating and vetting contracts, leases and other legal instruments
  • Drafting responses to legal queries and general correspondence
  • Liaising with Company witnesses and external Advocates on litigation matters
  • Providing legal opinions and reports on legal matters as may be required
  • Compiling evidence and other information on cases and forwarding to external Lawyers
  • Compiling reports on legal matters
  • Participating in resolving disputes with clients and other parties
 

Additional requirements:
•Have been admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
•Be in possession of a current practicing certificate
•Proficient  in the use of basic computer applications
•Have skills to handle:

  • Staff and patient disciplinary processes
  • Investigations and enquiries

•Undertaking  other tasks related to legal matters as may be assigned

1.   SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH
    DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND POPULATION HEALTH
i.LECTURER
QUALIFICATIONS:
•PhD Degree or have successfully defended PhD from a recognized

  • university in any of the following areas:
  • Public HealthPopulation Health
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Environmental Health
  • Community Health

OR Masters Degree with Bachelors Degree in any of the following fields:

  • Environmental Health
  • Population Health
  • Community Health
  • Occupational Health and Safety

•Applicants with evidence of university level teaching experience will have an added advantage.
   
ii.TUTORIAL FELLOW
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Masters Degree from a recognized university in any of the following areas:

  • Public Health
  • Population Health
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Environmental Health
  • Community Health
  • Reproductive Health

•Bachelors Degree from a recognized university in any of the following fields:

  • Environmental Health
  • Population Health
  • Community Health
  • Occupational Health and Safety

2.SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM
DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT
i.PROFESSOR
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD Degree in Tourism Management  or related field from a recognized university
  • At least twelve (12) years of university teaching at Lecturer level, (5) of which as full-time Associate Professor
  • Successfully supervised at least four (4) Masters students and at least two (2) PhD students since being appointed Associate Professor
  • At least four (4) articles in refereed journals, since being appointed as an Associate Professor
  • Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as an Associate Professor
  • Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching 
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars and workshops

 ii.ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD Degree in Tourism Management  or related field from a recognized university
  • At least eight (8) years of University teaching, four (4) of which as full-time Senior Lecturer
  • Successfully supervised at least four (4) Masters students and one (1) PhD student, since being appointed Senior Lecturer
  • At least four (4) articles in refereed journals since being appointed as a Senior Lecturer
  • Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as a Senior Lecturer
  • Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars and workshops

 3.SCHOOL OF PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCE
DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY
i.LECTURER
QUALIFICATIONS:
•PhD Degree from a recognized university in one of the following areas of specialization:

  • Biochemistry
  • Medical Biochemistry
  • Biotechnology
  • Forensic Science
  • Molecular Biology
  • Cell Biology
  • Pharmacology
  • Toxicology
  • Cyber Crime
  • Pathology

 •University teaching experience
ii.TUTORIAL FELLOW
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Masters Degree from a recognized university in one of the following areas of specialization:
Biochemistry

  • Medical Biochemistry
  • Biotechnology
  • Forensic Science
  • Molecular Biology
  • Cell Biology
  • Pharmacology
  • Toxicology
  • Cyber Crime
  • Pathology

•Registered for PhD Degree in area of specialization

 

 

 iii.SENIOR TECHNICIAN – GRADE C/D
QUALIFICATIONS:
•KCE Division II or KCSE Mean Grade C+ (Plus) and above
•Higher National Diploma or Bachelor of Science Degree from a recognized institution in one of the following areas:

  • Applied Biology
  • Clinical Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Medical Biochemistry
  • Biotechnology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Forensic Science
  • Medical Laboratory Science


•At least three (3) years work experience in a Molecular Biology, Medical Biochemistry or Forensic Science Laboratory
•Demonstrate ability to service and maintain a wide range of Laboratory equipment
•Computer literate

iv.TECHNICIAN – GRADE A/B
QUALIFICATIONS:
•KCE Division III or KCSE Mean Grade C (Plain) and above
•Ordinary Diploma  from a recognized institution in one of the following areas:

  • Medical Biochemistry
  • Molecular Biology
  • Forensic Science
  • Clinical Chemistry
  • Medical Laboratory Science


•At least one (1) year work experience in a Medical Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/Forensic Science Laboratory
•Demonstrate ability to service and maintain a wide range of Laboratory equipment

 

TERMS OF SERVICE:
For teaching positions above Tutorial Fellow employment will be on permanent and pensionable terms.

Tutorial Fellows are employed on one (1) year renewable contract, to the maximum of three (3) years.

The terms for non-teaching positions include a generous medical scheme, house allowance and commuting allowance. Successful candidates will be offered two (2) year renewable performance-based contract and gratuity will be paid at the end of the contract.

The applicants should provide full details of educational and professional qualification, work experience, present post and salary, applicant’s telephone number and e-mail address.

Copies of certificates and testimonials should also be enclosed giving the names and addresses of three (3) referees who are conversant with the applicant’s competence in area of specialization.
