The Kenyatta University Scouts Troop emerged as 1st runners up, against their other worthy opponents from the East African community scout members during the East African Zonal Scouting Competitions held in Burundi last month.
Known as the KIWI crew, the KU scouts team took on close to 300 scouts drawn from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Burundi in the competition. At this international inter Universities level of competition, participants were challenged and their abilities tested on a range of issues. This included knowledge in scouting, first aid skills, team work, physical fitness, , disaster preparedness and management.
They were also tested on scouting skills, current affairs, innovations, intellectual and social dimensions among many others.
The patrol that shows the best presentation is awarded the highest scores. The winners were awarded certificates and a trophy for the work done. The Kenyatta University Scouts Troop were awarded 1st runners up place. The various individuals who helped the troop were similarly recognized for their efforts in the overall success of the troop.
For the year 2019 thus far, the Kiwi crew troop has since been recognized as a model troop for the Kenya Scouts Association. Through, her commitment in scouting the troop attained the title of the Model Rover Crew in Kenya.

Looking on (left) is the DVC for Finance and Development Prof. Godfrey Mse.The event marked the official handing over of the new International Language and Cultural Centre building to Kenyatta University. The building was put up through a Chinese Government grant guaranteed by the Kenya Government.
