Background Information

About Kenyatta University Foundation
Kenyatta University Foundation (KUF), founded in 2011, is a non-profit philanthropic arm of Kenyatta University in Kenya with the mandate to advance, promote, and support the mission and vision of Kenyatta University. This mandate is realized through fundraising, collaborations, friendships and partnerships with KU Alumni, friends, the public, the private sector and other stakeholders in raising funds to support Kenyatta University and its activities. The Foundation’s five-year strategic plans respond to challenges facing sourcing and mobilization of funds and resources for the growth and development of Kenyatta University. By coordinating these resources with proposed programmes, KUF will harness existing synergies and emerging opportunities both locally and internationally to meet its core objectives.

As part of Kenyatta University, KUF is guided by and subscribes to the fundamental statements of the university. The vision of Kenyatta University is to be a dynamic, inclusive and competitive centre of excellence in teaching, learning; research and service to humanity. The mission of Kenyatta University is to provide quality education and training; promote scholarship; service; innovation and creativity; and inculcate moral values for sustainable individual and societal development. Kenyatta University identifies itself as a community of scholars committed to the generation and dissemination of knowledge and cultivation of wisdom for the welfare of society. Kenyatta University’s philosophy is sensitivity and responsiveness to societal needs and the right of every person to knowledge.

Since registration in 2011 as a charitable organisation in the USA, KU Foundation operates under an Executive Director in the US office and a Programme Coordinator who leads the Nairobi office at Kenyatta University main campus.

Registered in 2011 in the US as a non-profit charitable entity under Section 501(C)3, the Kenyatta University Foundation (KUF) advances the University’s pursuit of excellence in education, research, and community service. The Foundation provides the bridge between donors and the schools and programs, faculty, and students that make up Kenyatta University. The Foundation helps to match caring people with satisfying and meaningful opportunities to make gifts that have an impact on Kenyatta University.

Kenyatta University Foundation operates at two levels: the main office with an Executive Director in the US and the Nairobi office with a Programme Coordinator at Kenyatta University main campus on Thika Road, Nairobi. KU Foundation has a Board of Directors, Board of Advisors and the Kenyatta University Foundation Committee that advices the Nairobi office.
Private funds are essential as Kenyatta University enhances its core disciplines, creates niches, advances experiential learning, encourages inter-disciplinary research and puts its academic excellence to work in solving societal problems. Donor generosity keeps the university strong by enabling it to provide support to disadvantaged students and allows Kenyatta University to branch out in many directions through teaching, research, and community engagement.
