1. University Quality Management System
The University was first certified to ISO 9001:2008, Quality Management System Standard in 2008. Kenyatta University became the first public university to get ISO 9001:2008 certification in Kenya. After being awarded the ISO 9001:2008 Certification, the University has completed four cycles of certification as follows:
- Cycle one from 2008 to 2011,
- Cycle two from 2011 to 2014,
- Cycle three from 2014 to 2017,
- Cycle Four from 2017 to 2020,
Currently, the University is certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 and the current Certificate is valid from May 2020 to June 2023.
2. University Performance Contracting System
The University Performance contract system is a Multi-level system. The annual University Performance Contract with the government as per the performance contract guidelines is cascaded down-ward to all heads of departments for implementation. The departmental Performance Contracts are derived from and aligned to the University contract with the main focus being quality education and training through knowledge generation, research, innovation, and community service.
The University has been signing performance contracts with the Government of Kenya for the last seventeen (17) years since 2005/2006 FY. Kenyatta University was the 1st public University to scoop 1st position in performance contracting in the 2006/2007 performance cycle and also the 1st University to achieve the excellent category in the 2007/2008 performance cycle. The University has maintained the excellent category rank over the period as per the self-evaluation report.
Currently, the University is implementing the 2021/22 Performance Contract with the Government.
3. University Service Delivery Standards
The University is committed to quality service delivery. Towards this end, the University has documented the Service delivery standards in a Charter (English and Kiswahili Languages), the implementation of which is in all service points and monitored through the University Performance Contract System.
4. Implementation of the University Strategic Plan
The University is currently in the 6th year of implementing the 2016 - 2026 Strategic Plan. The planned mid-term evaluation is scheduled for 2021/2022 however quarterly monitoring and evaluation of the Strategic Plan at all levels is continuous. The Strategic Plan was revised in 2018 to align with the Big Four Agenda of the government.
