Students and Staff

The School currently boasts a student population of over 2000 students, 15% being postgraduate students. The students are of diverse nationalities including Uganda, Rwanda, D.R. Congo, Mozambique, South Sudan, Sudan, Liberia and Kenya. Should you therefore decide to pursue your studies in the School, you will be privileged to study in a rich multicultural environment under the guidance of 35 highly qualified staff who include Professors, Associate professors, senior lecturers and lecturers.

Undergraduate programmes
The school has four Departments; Agricultural Resources Management (ARM), Agricultural Science and Technology (AST), Agribusiness Management and Trade (ABMT) and Animal Sciences (AS) under which seven (7) Bachelor of Science Programmes are offered. These include: BSc Agriculture, Agricultural Resource Management, Animal Health and Production, Dryland Agriculture and Enterprise Development, Crop Improvement and Protection, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Education and Extension. The programmes are delivered by Residential (Regular), Institutional Based (IBP) and Open, Distant and e-Learning (ODeL) modes at the University Main Campus, Kitui, Mombasa and City campuses.

In addition, the School undertakes a multifaceted approach in delivery of content through: Lectures and practical courses like; laboratory experiments, farm practicals, internships and field attachments, research projects and seminars.

Postgraduate programmes

Masters programmes
The Masters programmes being offered include: MSc in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy (Crop Production and Crop Protection options), Plant Breeding, Crop Protection (Entomology and Pathology Options), Seed Science and Trade, Land and Water Management, Animal Nutrition and Management, Dryland Agriculture and Integrated Soil Fertility Management.

PhD programmes
These include Integrated Soil Fertility Management, Agribusiness Management and Trade, Plant pathology, Plant breeding ,Land and Water Management, Soil Science, Dryland Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Entomology and Seed Science and Technology. The programmes are not only popular in Kenya, but have attracted students from the region including Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Sudan, Republic of Sudan, Uganda and Liberia. AGRA is supporting students from the region to do the MSc in Integrated Soil Fertility Management.

Accreditation by Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB)
School of Agriculture and Enterprise Development was in 2016 recognized and accredited by the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) as a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Centre. In 2014 our BSc. Animal Health and Production was successfully accredited by Kenya Veterinary Board and again re-inspected in 2016 therefore giving our students eligibility to practice veterinary services after graduation.

Student Experience
Through the Kenyatta University Agriculture Student Association (KUASA), a students’ association, students in the School have joined hands in pursuit of academic excellence, social development and playing part in revitalizing agriculture in Kenya. New students joining the School are also mentored and supported in the association to have a positive university experience and make informed choices and decisions.
