Dr. Elizabeth J.A. Andang’o is a lecturer in the Department of Music and Dance since 1998. Her area of focus is music education and performance. Her other responsibilities in the Department include Chairing the Quality Assurance Committee and Secretary to the Departmental Curriculum Committee. Dr. Andang’o is also the Co-chairperson of the School of Law, Arts & Social Sciences Curriculum Committee and a board member of the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University. She has also previously served in the committee of the KU graduation magazine, the Tribune, between 2004 and 2006. On the international front, Elizabeth has served as a board member of the International Society of Music Education (ISME) between 2018 and 2022, and as Commissioner with the Early Childhood Music Education Commission of the International Society of Music Education(2010-2016). So far she has attended 9 ECME conferences, in among other locations, Taipei, Taiwan (2006); Frascati, Rome (2008); Beijing, China (2010) Corfu, Greece (2012), Brasilia, Brazil (2014) aEde, The Netherlands, (2016) where she retired from the Commission after completing her term, and Israel, 2018.  She also attended the respective ISME conferences in Kuala Lumpur; Bologna; Beijing; Thessaloniki, Porto Alegre, Glasgow and Azerbaijan. Other Conference attendances include RIME (Research in Music Education) at the University of Exeter, England (2007 & 2011), and Creativity in the Arts in New Jersey, USA (2010). Research activities include a funded collaborative Project on the Impact of COVID-19 on Primary School Children (2022), a Canadian Funded project, Advancing Interdisciplinary Research in Singing (AIRS), a collaborative Project she joined in 2010. She is part of the Project’s Sub-Theme 3.1 on Singing and Intercultural Understanding. She has attended 3 annual meetings of the Project in Canada (Toronto, 2013; Prince Edward Island, 2012; Newfoundland, 2011). Additionally, Elizabeth was part of African Music Education Project (AMEP), with colleagues from Technical University of Kenya; Maseno University, Kenya; Pretoria University, South Africa and Zambia.
