The Ornithology Section is a leading center for Ornithological research in Kenya and Africa. The section aims to contribute significantly to the appreciation and conservation of birds and biodiversity through action-oriented research, training, documenting and disseminating information on birds and their habitats.
The counts have been running for the past 30 years and normally cover various sites across the country from Lake Victoria, Rift valley, Nairobi, Central and Costal regions of Kenya. Kenyatta University sewerage Works was sighted as among the regions with a variety of water birds species and is regularly covered during the counts as part of Ornithological sections monitoring programs.
The National Museums of Kenya, Orinthology section, Zoology Department organized 2020 water birds count at Paradise lost in kiambu on Wednesday, 22nd January 2020. Kenyatta University Birding Club students, led by Dr. Cecilia Gichuki, (Department of Environmental Science and Education), Participated in the event on Wednesday starting at 9.30 a.m. to 2.00p.m.

The students who participated in the event termed the exercise as life time experience and took photos to commemorate the event. They thanked the University management for allowing them to be part of activity.
