Entry Requirement 

The common regulations for the Masters Degree in the University shall apply. The common regulations for the Masters degree in the Faculty of environmental Studies shall apply. The following shall be eligible for registration for the Master of environmental Studies in Agro- forestry and Rural Development. 

  • Bachelor's Degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Environmental Science Environmental Education, Geography, Geology, Meteorology, Physical Science, Biological Sciences Technology, Agriculture or Engineering.
  • Those with Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have Grade "C" and above in units relevant to their areas of specialization.

Examination Requirements
The general University examination regulations shall apply. Students enrolled for the Master of Environmental Studies (Agroforestry and Rural Development) degree programme will be expected to take written examinations on all taught courses. Assessment of each unit shall be done at the end of the semester in which it is taught. The written examination will constitute 70% of the total marks while the coursework assessment tests will constitute 30% of the total marks per unit. The pass mark shall be 50%.
Every student must do research in the second year and submit a thesis for examination. Theses will be examined and classified as Pass or Fail.


Mode of Study
The Master of environmental studies (Agroforestry and Rural Development) degree programme is by Course work, Examinations and Theses. The course is a full-time programme extending over a period of at least eighteen months. In the first year of study, students will take at least ten units, six of which will be Core and four Electives. In the second year of study, students will carry out a field research and submit a thesis for examination. Students will be required to attend seminars and present at least two critique papers in areas related to Agroforestry and rural Development.
