I am an undergraduate student at Kenyatta University, doing Bachelor of Education (Arts). Given that my teaching subjects are English and Literature, I can attest to the excellence of the Department of Literature Linguistics and Foreign Languages as it is where I have undertaken most of my units. The Department boasts of a formidable, renowned and dedicated faculty with incisive understanding of their areas of specialization. The lecturers employ a discovery-based approach to teaching. This ensures exposure to broad but relevant knowledge. The fact that the Department houses both English and Literature fosters an interdisciplinary approach learning leading to the achievement of communicative competence by the students. I have, to this end, acquired the knowledge of language use in various contexts, and this has afforded me an invaluable opportunity to probe the creative recesses of humans insofar as language use is concerned. Moreover, the hands-on approach to learning has honed my literary skills, sharpened my linguistic acumen, and whetted my creativity. Such knowledge and skills prove useful not only in academia but also in life and work as well. I would certainly recommend our Department to anyone, since learning here would undoubtedly lay a firm foundation for further scholarship and work both in Kenya and overseas.
