My name is Richard Mbuthia. I am a Fourth year undergraduate student in the Department of Literature, Linguistics and Foreign Languages specializing in English and Literature as teaching subjects under a Bachelor of Education (Arts) Degree. I chose Kenyatta University as my university of choice because of the education courses offered. The university is arguably the oldest teacher-training university in the country. I am taking my degree program under the Continuing Education part-time mode of learning. I teach at the primary school level in Tanzania but wanted to enhance my capacity to be able to teach at the secondary level of education also. Different universities offer this approach to learning but K. U is a pioneer on the same. Always, I dream of being one who can change the society through education. The training and visionary instructors I have interacted with in the Department of L. L. and F. L. has convinced me that teaching is a calling but also a profession. Sapient courses, deep topics and philosophical depths are what one encounters through the various Literature and Linguistics courses available in the department. Creative writers who teach it in literature section adopt hands on approach to mentorship. Under them I have since published three books of poetry. The first one is my debut collection of poems entitled The Setting Noon and Other Poems (2017). The second and third ones are two anthologies produced in conjunction with school pupils where I teach: Bounding for Light (2018) and A Spark in the Dark (2019). I stoutly recommend you all to try Kenyatta University.
