Literature Undergraduate Student Testimonial

My name is Cecilia Akinyi Otieno. I am a 4th Year student at Kenyatta University. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree with English and Literature as my teaching subjects. When I joined campus in September 2014, my mindset was similar to that of many of my classmates. Many often believe that we are here to finish the degree and after four years we graduate to go and become teachers of English in high school. However we were wrong. The Degree in English and Literature at Kenyatta University exposes a learner to other career tracks including Media, Theatre, International Relations, Corporate Communication and Publishing. I am passionate about blogging and exploring activities that allow me to express my thoughts in words. This led me to start my blog in 2017 through which I won Writer of the Year in KUSA Awards 2017, and the following year, I was made Editor in Chief of Career Office Magazine, a KU career week memento magazine. My dream of being a writer is now at hand. Inspirational approach to content-delivery, professional mentorship and interactive teaching methods of my instructors in the Department of Literature, Linguistics and Foreign Languages have ensured my steady blossom as a writer and teacher. Higher education in the Humanities at K.U. equips one with the relevant skills needed to compete favorably in the market. As I say, one can never go wrong with a degree in English and literature.
