Dr. Ogweno is the current Chairman of the Department of Medical Physiology, Kenyatta University and has been serving his 1st term from April, 2014. He is also the Chairman of Division of Anaesthesia, Gertrude’s Hospital, and member of MAC. In collaboration with Gertrude’s Garden Children’s Hospital, he has facilitated the conduct of training on procedural paediatric sedation for clinicians and nurses at Getrude’s Hospital in November 2014 and February 2015. Recently, he has attended and presented the South African Society of Anaesthesiologist (SASA) congress in March 2015 held in Durban, South Africa

His current collaborations include work with the Kenyatta University’s School of Medicine’s Department of Medical Laboratory, and by extension, BD Company, with whom they are working on the placement of Flow Cytometer at Kenyatta University and upcoming Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital.

In collaboration with Kenya Society of Anaesthesiilogists (KSA) and World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA), he has completed curriculum development for fellowship in pain management. The draft curriculum is awaiting approval by the University and relevant bodies before roll out. He is also working on curricula for MSc in Medical Physiology and Master of Medicine in Anaesthesia.

He has facilitated crucial programs at the school of medicine, including:

  • Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) on the way from Belgium
  • Telemedicine-Collaboration between CISCO,Copy Cat, Telkom Orange pilot project to serve Narok and Nairobi counties
  • Abbot I-Stat equipment leased for research project in Mar to Jun 2015

  • Effects of Crystalloid Solutions on Human Coagulation System(ongoing)

  • Effects of acute physical activity on coagulation and its relation to plasma lactate and lipid(ongoing)

  • Assays of carbonic anhydrase in sickle cell disease patients(ethical approval obtained, data collection ongoing)

  • Determination of platelet aggregation in HIV patients(Awaiting Ethical approval)
