Message from the Dean
Welcome to the School of Health Sciences of Kenyatta University. Our vision is to become a Centre of Excellence in the training of Healthcare providers of all levels.
Establishment of the School
The School was established in August 2004 as a Centre of Excellence in Health Research, Capacity Building and Product Development and named School of Health Sciences. Its name was later changed to School of Medicine. It has grown rapidly and has seen the Public Health Component branch off to form the School of Public Health, the Pharmacy component form the School of Pharmacy and the Nursing component the School of Nursing.

The school has initiated and participated in several research projects that have had a great impact on the community. The school has also organized many community events and activities that help promote health and prevent diseases. These programs are supervised and delivered by professionals from Kenya and around the world. The school is proud of its staff from the faculty, technical and administrative cadres who have contributed and still are in achieving its vision and mission and translating its plans and strategic goals into reality. The school is proud that a number of its members, including lecturers and students, have won awards in recognition for their creativity and research production.
The School provides a wide range of quality programs at bachelors and Postgraduate levels through Blended Learning approach which combines online digital instruction with live tutorials and face to face learning with all clinical practical attachments and placements being physical. In our programs, we will explore the soft skills and various academic strategies you need to achieve success at your level in the University. We urge you to bring your full selves into the classrooms and other activities. Bring your ideas, experiences, perspectives, and dreams with you as you engage with each other using a range of tools in your learning journey. To train highly skilled and competent resourceful nurse practitioners with acumen in health care provision in diverse settings.

To be a center of excellence in training professional Nurses, Nursing Researchers and Community service providers.
Objectives
- To train nurses with a solid scientific knowledge – base, participatory approaches, ethical and professional attributes requisite in the provision of quality nursing Services in diverse settings.
- To inculcate in the students, skills and positive attitudes in creativity, communication resourcefulness, independent and critical thinking in order to enhance delivery of quality and effective nursing services in diverse settings.
- To train nurses who will offer leadership in research, training, health care planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and policy development for sustainable quality care provision and improvement.
