BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH)
Entry Requirements
In addition to meeting the university entry requirements, candidates for admission to Bachelor of Science degree in environmental health degree course shall be required to have obtained
Either
a) At least the following grades in the subjects listed below at KCSE or its equivalent:
i. Mathematics or physics C+
ii. Chemistry / Physical science C+
iii. Biology/ Biological Science C+
iv. English or Kiswahili C+
OR
A Diploma with at least a credit from a recognised institution in the following areas: Environmental health; environmental studies; water and civil engineering; pharmacy; nursing; clinical medicine; biomedical laboratory technology; biomedical sciences; public health; community health and nursing, nutrition and other health related courses. In addition the candidate should have obtained a C (plain) at KCSE or Division III at KCE.
Duration and Course Requirements
Duration of the Programme
The duration of study for the Programme shall be 4 academic years.
Course Requirements
A student must take 54 registered units of 35 contact hours each
Credit transfer
Credit Transfer willl be considered for students taking the same program in a recognized institution, subject to approval by the department
Examinations
The common Regulations for the University Examination shall apply.
Mode of Examinations
All units shall be examined at the end of the semester in which they are taken, unless the course runs longer than a semester. The assessment of the students’ work shall be on the basis of percentage (%) marks. The pass mark in all unit courses shall be 40% of the total marks.
Written Examinations
Examinations shall consist of Continuous Assessment Tests (CATS) which shall contribute 30% and University Examinations which shall contribute 70%.
Practical courses and practicum
Where the course is mainly practical, it will be examined wholly by continuous assessment and/or practical assessment. The examination format shall consist of a written paper (where applicable), a practical, oral presentation and/or a report.
Projects
Units involving field work such as projects shall be examined as follows:
A report after the field course shall constitute 50%. The Project Proposal shall comprise 30% marks, and the project report 70%.
Attachments
Units involving field work such as attachment shall be examined as follows:
A report after the attachment shall constitute 50%. Oral presentation, Logbook, Field Supervisor’s Assessment Report and University Supervision, shall constitute 50%.
Grading
Each unit shall be marked out of 100 %. The marks shall be translated into letter grades as follows;

Certification
The degree that will be awarded is the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health BSc (EVH). In order to qualify for the award of the degree of BSc (EVH), a candidate must have taken and passed all the 54 units.
