Building Urban Community Networks for Sustainable cities in Africa
The UComNetSus project — Building Urban Community Networks for Sustainable cities in Africa — targets three interconnected urban challenges facing African cities: ecological degradation, poverty and pollution. The project establishes stakeholder networks that facilitate knowledge exchange and identify social, economic and ecological synergies for sustainable urban development.
Conceptualised by a consortium of eight multidisciplinary experts and hosted at Kenyatta University, UComNetSus works across six target cities: Lagos, Kigali, Kumasi, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Mombasa. The project is supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF) through the Future Earth Africa Hub, and has presented its co-learning approach at international forums including the Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress.
