BSc. Petroleum Engineering

Introduction

The Department of Energy, Gas and Petroleum Engineering was established in 2023 to train professionals and conduct research in sustainable energy, oil, and gas systems. With energy as a key pillar of Kenya’s Vision 2030, the department is at the forefront of developing skills to support the renewable and fossil energy sectors. Programmes address critical areas like energy exploration, utilization, conversion, and policy formulation.

Kenya’s oil and gas discoveries, along with the need to enhance energy access through renewables, necessitate skilled graduates capable of advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Entry Requirements

  • Energy Technology and Petroleum Engineering:
  • – KCSE mean grade of C+ with minimum grades: Mathematics (B+), Physics (B+), Chemistry (B), English (B)

– Diploma holders may be admitted to 2nd year upon meeting credit requirements.

  • Renewable Energy Technology:

– BSc. in Energy Engineering/Technology or related field, with Second-Class Honours (Upper Division).

– Lower Division considered with 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Renewable Energy Technology:

– Master’s degree in engineering or science field from a recognized institution.

Mode and Structure of Delivery

– Full-time programme.

– Undergraduate: 16-week semesters + 2-week exams.

– Practical third trimesters in 2nd and 3rd years (internal/external attachments).

– BSc. Petroleum Engineering: 5 years (80 units + attachments)
