This programme is designed to equip learners with both instructional knowledge and practical technical skills essential for the effective management of building and civil engineering projects. It blends foundational theories with hands-on experience to prepare graduates for dynamic roles in the construction industry. Key course highlights include Construction Graphics, Creative Thinking and Problem Solving, Workshop Practice and Technology, Computer Technology for Construction Managers, Soil Mechanics and Foundations, Principles of Highway Engineering, and Economics for Construction Managers, just to mention a few. Together, these units provide a well-rounded understanding of the technical, managerial, and economic aspects of construction project delivery.
Objectives
The general purpose of the program is to develop character, build leaders, and sustain learning in the construction management profession.
Educational Objectives of the Instructional Program
• Provide students with the ability to recognize and independently diagnose construction-related problems accurately, develop creative alternatives, and implement practical and effective solutions.
• Provide students with the ability to apply construction-related techniques, skills, and tools to construction materials as necessary for a managed construction project.
• Provide students with the ability to understand technical issues related to the fields of architecture, engineering, business and construction accounting, and finance.
• Work effectively and efficiently with personnel from these disciplines to properly apply related fundamentals, techniques, and procedures.
• Provide students with the ability to apply basic construction-related design theory within the areas of structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and soil mechanics.
Rationale
Needs assessment survey reviewed a skill gap of Construction managers with a bias towards civil engineering projects are lacking in Kenya and East African region. As a result, engineers have been playing this role despite the fact that their core education structure does not take into account social, economic and organizational skills that determine success or failure of construction project. The Kenya vision 2030 proposes and launches many flagship projects in areas of water and sanitation, housing and urbanization, tourism, energy and transport infrastructure that requires trained construction managers capable of utilizing available resources and deliver quality projects within the given time and cost.

Admission Requirements for the Proposed Programme
Candidates shall be eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Construction management degree in the School of Architecture and Built Environment in the following categories:
1. KCSE Candidates
The basic admission requirement shall be the minimum entry requirements set for entry into the public universities, which is at least an average grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
In addition, candidates are expected to have obtained at least a grade C+ (plus) in each of the following subject clusters:
• Mathematics (alternative A or B)
• Physics
• Any Group III (History and Government and /or Geography)
• 2nd Group II/ 2nd Group III/ any Group IV/ any Group V
KCSE Subject Grouping
• Group I: English, Kiswahili, Mathematics
• Group II: Biology, Physics, Chemistry
• Group III: History and Government, Geography, Christian Religious Education, Islamic Religious Education, Hindu Religious Education
• Group IV: Home Science, Art and Design, Agriculture, Aviation Technology, Computer Studies
• Group V: French, German, Arabic, Music, Business Studies
2. A-Levels or Equivalent
Candidate should have a minimum of two (2) principal passes in Mathematics and Physics and with a credit pass in English at O-Level
3. Diploma (TEP) or Equivalent
Candidates with a minimum credit pass in Diploma (Technical Education Project) in Construction management by the Kenya National Examinations Council or an equivalent qualification
4. Diploma in Technology or Equivalent
Candidates with a minimum credit pass in Diploma in Technology (Dip.Tech) in Construction Management from a recognized college or an equivalent qualification.
5. Higher Diploma (H.Dip.) or Equivalent
Candidates with a minimum credit pass in Higher National Diploma (H.N. Dip.) in Construction of the Kenya National Examinations Council or an equivalent qualification.
Mode and Structure of Delivery
Delivery of the programme will be done through face-to-face learning. Various methods will be employed such as lectures, practical, demonstrations, industrial based learning, field trips, resource persons and studio-based learning. No Part time. Academic Year has two semesters Jan to April and August to December.
Programme Duration: The course duration is 4 years.
Curriculum Highlights: The Key courses include (Building Technology, Structural and Material Testing and Architectural Design. Industrial attachments are undertaken in 2nd and 3rd year of Study. Research Project and Practical Studio done in 4th year.

1. Facilities and Equipment
Substantial resources are available for the programme. The university has a post-modern library which is well equipped for the programme in terms of books, journals and e-learning materials. A water quality laboratory and workshop is also available. The university has recently constructed a well-equipped mechanical and civil engineering workshop, and provided space for hydraulics, soil mechanics and concrete laboratories. The university has lecture halls which are fully equipped for at least 50 students in each level of learning.
