| Introduction | The justice and legal sector produces and consumes a lot of information and there is therefore, a growing demand for specialised justice and governance informational professionals with necessary competencies for strategic information management. This unique degree program equips students with the competencies needed to cope with the ever increasing demand for management information in justice and governance. The students are trained in the emerging technologies in this new justice and governance information management domain. |
| Programme objectives | The programme objectives are:
· To prepare students with the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and skills to work as justice and governance information managers. · To develop students capacity for self-employment. · To equip students with practical skills in the management of information systems and services. · To develop students capacity for further studies and research. |
| Justification / Rationale | There is an established lack of specialized information managers in the area of justice and legal information management despite the fact that this is a sector that produces and uses a lot of information. Information in the justice and governance systems therefore, continues to be handled by general information managers who lack general and background knowledge in law and hence not able to deliver the necessary information for strategic decision making and leadership. This is a market driven programme aimed at addressing the growing demand for specialised justice and governance informational professionals. This program, unique to Kenyatta University, is designed to equip students with appropriate domain knowledge in justice systems, governance, specialised skills in legal data capture, analysis and reporting, records management and modern Information Communication Technology. |
| Entry Requirements | A mean grade of C+ in the overall KCSE mean grade.
OR Candidates who have a mean grade of C in KCSE or its equivalent and a C in English and a relevant diploma from a recognized institution. |

| Curriculum Highlights | Students in this program are first introduced to basic law in order to understand the terminologies in legal documents and publications and then trained in information systems management.
Students must complete a three months attachment period in a relevant justice and legal institution. |
