 As per the Charter and Statutes of Kenyatta University, the duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Outreach) are:

  1. Research Leadership: Providing strategic direction and leadership to enhance the quality, quantity, and impact of research activities across the university.

  2. Research Funding: Facilitating the identification of funding opportunities and supporting faculty members and research teams in securing research grants, contracts, and other sources of funding.

  3. Research Collaboration: Promoting interdisciplinary and collaborative research initiatives within the university and fostering partnerships with other academic institutions, industry, government agencies, and international organizations.

  4. Research Integrity: Ensuring adherence to ethical standards and regulatory requirements in research activities, including human subjects research, animal welfare, and intellectual property rights.

  5. Innovation and Technology Transfer: Supporting the development and commercialization of research outcomes, technologies, and intellectual property through technology transfer, licensing, and entrepreneurship initiatives.

  6. Knowledge Exchange: Facilitating the dissemination of research findings through publications, presentations, conferences, and other scholarly activities, as well as engaging with policymakers, practitioners, and the public to translate research into practice.

  7. Innovation Ecosystem: Cultivating an innovation ecosystem within the university by supporting entrepreneurship, startup incubation, and technology commercialization efforts among students, faculty, and staff.

  8. Community Engagement: Promoting engagement with local communities, industry partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to address societal challenges, promote economic development, and enhance the university's impact and relevance.

  9. Outreach and Extension: Leading outreach and extension programs to share university expertise, resources, and services with external stakeholders, including schools, businesses, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

  10. Strategic Planning: Contributing to the development and implementation of strategic plans, goals, and initiatives related to research, innovation, and outreach, in alignment with the university's mission and vision.

  11. Resource Mobilization: Collaborating with internal and external partners to mobilize resources, including funding, facilities, and expertise, to support research, innovation, and outreach activities.

  12. Performance Evaluation: Monitoring and evaluating the performance and impact of research, innovation, and outreach initiatives, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and excellence.

  1. Research Administration: Overseeing administrative aspects of research activities, including research proposal submission, grant management, compliance with research regulations, and reporting on research outputs.

  2. Innovation Management: Facilitating the management of intellectual property, patents, and technology transfer activities resulting from university research. This might involve collaborating with industry partners, licensing agreements, and supporting innovation-driven entrepreneurship among faculty and students.

  3. Outreach Coordination: Leading efforts to establish and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders, such as industry, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups, to promote collaboration, knowledge exchange, and community engagement initiatives.

  4. Project Management: Managing projects related to research, innovation, and outreach, including coordinating activities, monitoring progress, allocating resources, and ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.

  5. Strategic Planning: Contributing to the development and implementation of strategic plans and initiatives aimed at enhancing research excellence, fostering innovation, and expanding the university's outreach and impact.

  6. Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs, interests, and priorities related to research, innovation, and outreach, and incorporating feedback into planning and decision-making processes.

  7. Capacity Building: Supporting the professional development of faculty, staff, and students involved in research, innovation, and outreach activities through training, mentorship, and networking opportunities.

  8. Performance Evaluation: Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness and impact of research, innovation, and outreach programs and initiatives, and using data to inform strategic decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.

  9. Compliance and Reporting: Ensuring compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and reporting requirements governing research, innovation, and outreach activities, and liaising with regulatory bodies and funding agencies as necessary.

  10. Communication and Promotion: Promoting the university's research achievements, innovative projects, and outreach activities through various communication channels, including publications, events, presentations, and digital platforms.
