Ever wondered how institutional transformation truly happens? Kenyatta University pulled back the curtain. During a courtesy visit hosted by DVC RIO, Prof. Caroline Thoruwa, a delegation from the Shandong Academy of Governance met with KU leadership before moving to a broader strategic session. Led by Gao Shangrui, Vice-Dean, and accompanied by experts from student administration, international relations, and library services, the visit cemented new pathways toward governance collaboration.
“Thank you for the warm reception. Your hospitality speaks volumes in relation to the internationalisation standards here,” remarked Gao Shangrui, capturing the receptive spirit of the meeting. KU’s leadership responded in kind, presenting the University as a comprehensive, academically robust institution, expertly navigating local priorities while embracing global partnerships.
What This Means for KU
- The visit arrives as KU shores up its China partnerships, including nine active MOUs across Schools such as SLASS, SEA, the School of Health Sciences, with Chinese institutions like Beijing institutions, Sino-African centres, Nanchang, and Jianjong, among others, an expansive network already supporting student exchanges, scholarships, and joint research.
- The Academy’s interests, spanning governance training, capacity building, institutional reforms, and tailored academic programmes, align directly with KU’s own vision for global engagement and institutional strengthening.
- As the visit wrapped its first act under DVC Thoruwa’s guidance, the larger consultative phase promises more strategic collaboration in governance, training, and cultural integration, underpinned by existing successes through the Confucius Institute.
