We boast a vibrant community of over 1000 international students from more than 30 countries, enrolled in a range of programmes from diplomas to postgraduate studies. The University’s Department of Sports and Culture on 13th March 2025 hosted the International Cultural Day at Bishop Square, bringing together students, faculty, and dignitaries to celebrate the rich diversity that defines this institution.
Under the theme “Cultures in Harmony: Building Strength Through Diversity,” the event was attended by notable figures, including Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Outreach, Prof. Caroline Thoruwa, and Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics Prof. James Kung’u. This high-profile gathering also included members of the University administration, international students, and cultural representatives.
The event featured a vibrant array of co-curricular activities, including cultural performances, traditional attire, food, and a first-of-its-kind “Soko KU” Bazaar, where students showcased cultural artefacts and delicacies from their home countries. This provided an invaluable opportunity for international students to share their rich traditions and foster understanding across cultures.
In her speech, Prof. Thoruwa highlighted the university’s commitment to its internationalisation agenda, expressing pride in the over 1,000 international students studying at Kenyatta University. She emphasised that events like the International Cultural Day play a vital role in bridging cultural gaps, fostering integration, and promoting peaceful co-existence. She also announced that 125 international students had graduated in the 53rd and 55th graduation ceremonies, further solidifying the university’s global reach.
To conclude the day’s festivities, the crowning of Mr and Mrs. Kenyatta University International Student was held, alongside the awarding of various gifts and certificates, celebrating the unity and cultural wealth of Kenyatta University’s diverse student body.
