Kenyatta University welcomed a delegation from Southern University A&M College (Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA) on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, marking the beginning of a dynamic week of academic exchange, cultural immersion, and experiential learning. The team comprising ten undergraduate students, one graduate student, and four faculty members is in Kenya for a short Study Abroad Programme running from 16th to 21st November 2025.
The delegation, led by Southern University’s Vice-Chancellor for Academics, Dr. Luria Young, paid a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor’s office earlier this morning. The session brought together senior KU administrators, including representatives from the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation & Outreach), Prof. Caroline Thoruwa, the Directorate of International Programmes & Collaborations, and academic leaders from the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
During the courtesy call, both institutions affirmed their commitment to expanding opportunities for joint programming, student mobility, faculty collaboration, and global academic engagement. The visit aligns closely with Kenyatta University’s internationalisation agenda and its vision of preparing globally competent scholars and professionals.
Swahili Session and Student Interaction Underway
Following the courtesy call, the Southern University team proceeded to an Introductory Swahili session, where they engaged with KU students. The interactive class offered an opportunity for linguistic exposure, cultural exchange, and peer-to-peer learning, an integral element of the Study Abroad experience.
The session also allowed KU students to showcase Kenya’s linguistic heritage while fostering cross-cultural friendships and a deeper appreciation of East African culture.
