Generating evidence to advance Women's Economic Empowerment in Kenya | Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
The Kenyatta University Women's Economic Empowerment (KU-WEE) Hub was established on 9th October 2020 through a research grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Housed at the KU Centre for Gender Equity and Empowerment, the Hub generates a body of evidence to advance Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) in Kenya, ensuring that ministries, county governments, legislators, implementing agencies and donors use policy evidence to shape WEE programmes and advocacy.
The Hub is undertaking twelve analytical studies using mixed methods, including a Randomised Control Trial on childcare and women's market work in Tharaka Nithi County. It works in partnership with Tharaka Nithi County, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the Institute of Economic Affairs-Kenya, Yale University, Busara Behavioural Economics Centre and national ministries, and collaborates closely with its sister hub in India, IWWAGE. The Hub also publishes the KU-WEE Journal and hosts international WEE conferences.
