Research into medicinal plant extracts for treating common diseases, in partnership with KEMRI
The National Phytotherapeutics Research Centre (NPRC) runs a portfolio of research projects investigating medicinal plant extracts for treating common diseases, in partnership with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). The projects advance the safety, efficacy, standardisation and quality assurance of plant-based medicines used widely in Kenya and the region.
Project activities span ethnobotanical documentation of traditional medicine knowledge, phytochemical screening of candidate plants, pre-clinical evaluation of herbal formulations, and upscaling of promising products towards regulatory approval. The centre also contributes evidence to national policy on the regulation of herbal medicine. See the NPRC centre page for the centre's full profile.
