Accelerating Kenya's journey to Universal Health Coverage through health financing, inclusion and evidence
USAID HERO was a USAID-funded project hosted at Kenyatta University, working with ten Kenyan counties to promote government efforts towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030. Implemented with partner Abt Global, the project supported resource mobilisation for health at sub-national level and enhanced accountability in health financing.
The project's work centred on three pillars: domestic resource mobilisation, financial and social inclusion, and evidence generation for decision-making. Activities included capacity building for government and civil society partners, data analytics for stakeholders, grants to CSOs for advocacy, gender mainstreaming in health policies, and training on performance-based budgeting with the Kenya School of Government. The project has since closed, with its materials remaining available online.
